Via the L.A. Times music news:

Excepting a Lohan domestic spat at Chateau Marmont, it takes a lot to shut down the Sunset Strip for a weekend. But the Smashing Pumpkins will have a go of it when they headline this year’s installment of the Sunset Strip Music Festival on Aug. 28.

Billy Corgan Wants You!

Via nme.com:

The Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan has launched open auditions to find a new bassist and keyboard player to replace Ginger Pooley after she quit the band last week.

And speaking the Pumpkins, Billy Corgan has offered up three new tracks of forthcoming album Teagarden By Kaleidyscope on their official website.

Again, from nme.com:

Smashing Pumpkins have announced that they will release the next song in their ‘Teargarden By Kaleidyscope’ series at some point today (March 2) on their official website, Smashingpumpkins.com.

The song, entitled ‘A Stitch In Time’, will be the third in the ‘Teargarden…’ series. Billy Corgan and co plan to compile 44 ‘Teargarden…’ songs the band plan to eventually release on a one-off basis, via forthcoming EP releases.

“The song came in during a stream of consciousness moment while sitting backstage at a Pumpkins concert in those wee, still hours between sound check and the show,” Corgan said of ‘A Stitch In Time’.

I’ve heard the three songs released so far – A Stitch In Time, Widow Wake My Mind and A Song For A Son – and they’re all fantastic. It appears that releasing new material via downloading (in most cases, for free) is here to stay, regardless what the RIAA has to say about the subject.

“And the recording industry still can’t figure out why they’re going bankrupt.” — me
