Are You KID-ing Me?

Back when Def Leppard first hit the stage, they were known for their age; or lack thereof, actually and had been tagged as being the “youngest metal band” at that time. Over the years, there have been a plethora of bands where the average age seems to be that just shy of being able to obtain a driver’s license.

Now come The Thrashers, whose album title, Nine, pays respect to their youthful exuberance.

While most tots are finding complacency with a Toy Story DVD or their trusty playground swing set, one group of young boys were blazing a very different trail at their local day care. They were planting the roots of metal.

Being just a few weeks short of my 47th birthday and remembering back to what I was doing at their age, I feel really old, not to mention this begs the question of just of how “young” is “too young” to rock?

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers have a new album, Mojo, hitting the shelves Tuesday, some seven-plus years since the last Heartbreakers album, The Last DJ.

Head over to the L.A. Times Entertainment section for an excellent interview in which he discusses his life as leader of the Heartbreakers, the new album and what’s in store for the future.

An Interview With Michael Monroe

One of my favorite bands of the 80’s ‘Hollywood Metal’ era was Hanoi Rocks. I thought that they had a very unique sound, that set them apart from the rest of the pack.

When their drummer, Nicholas Dingley aka Razzle was killed in Vince Neil’s Pantera, I knew then that Hanoi Rocks would never be the same, if they remained a band at all. They did press on, but never were able to recover. Sadly, I was never able to catch them live, but thankfully I have their discography to listen to whenever I have a hankering for their particular sleazy brand of Finnish rock & roll.

Last week, the SoCal music blog City of Devils posted an interview with the iconoclastic frontman about what he’s been up to and, while he didn’t address the subject, you can follow the link in the preface to the interview regarding the myriad problems of ex-Hanoi guitarist, Andy McCoy.

Year Of The Iggy

In light of the timeless Mr. James “Iggy Pop” Osterberg’s induction into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame, (thus saving an induction ceremony that would have been an otherwise abject failure), as well as a brand-spanking new box set commemorating the equally timeless Raw Power due out this year, Billboard.com has an interview with the great one.
